Give your headhunter a hug. He and she deserve it. They’re getting a bad rap.
For some reason headhunters have a bad rep. We try to avoid paying their fees. We think they’re devious, pushy, and controlling. They go out of their way to avoid doing things in a “proper” manner. Worse, many of them even try to contact the hiring manager directly. On the other hand, maybe they have a point. Maybe, just maybe, your corporate recruiting processes are at fault, not the behavior of these TPRs (third-party recruiters), who try to shortcut them. Maybe being pushy, working directly with hiring managers and using clever techniques to find top people and get them hired is actually a good thing. In this “upsetting the apple cart” type of webcast, Lou Adler will demonstrate that TPRs – at least the good ones – know what they’re doing. If you’re a corporate recruiter, or recruiting leader, you just might want to benchmark what they’re doing, or at least invite them in find out how they do it. They, and their techniques, might prove useful. They'll certainly be eye-opening.
