

If you don't have a MySpace page, get one so you can see how it works. Once you have the page start linking to all of your friends, then start adding other recruiters to your Friends List. If you go to MySpace find me via email (lou@adlerconcepts.com) and send me your link, so I can add you to my Friends List. Of course, that’s not the point of this hot tip. Leveraging technology is the point.
Here's how you can use MySpace to massively and quickly extend the effectiveness of your employee referral program.
First, get all of your employees to establish a MySpace business page - professional and above board. Then have them use this page to discuss appropriate business or technical issues with other like-minded people. Once this page is established, have them expand their list of friends by proactively seeking other people who had similar interests. Now using this big list of pre-qualified and technically qualified friends, have them contact these people whenever you have a suitable opening in your company. This is how you leverage technology and your employee referral program to get better results more quickly. And while they're establishing a MySpace business connection page, have them start nurturing some of their old college buds (thanks to Steve Levy, for this). There are a lot of great and forgotten contacts hidden here who could become some of your company's future stars.
We all know that employee referrals are the best source of strong candidates. Most companies are now getting 30-40% of their new hires this way. Why not shoot for 75%? You'll need to proactively promote this idea and make sure that employees get their referral bonus, regardless of how they find the person. If you do it right, this program will expand like wildfire. But don't wait. This idea will explode shortly and if you're not an early adopter, you're employees will be on somebody else's Friends List.
